Computer Controlled Thermal Solar Energy Basic Unit

The Computer Controlled Thermal Solar Energy Basic Unit, “MINI-EESTC”, allows to demonstrate solar thermal heating of domestic water in an illustrative manner.

Description

The Computer Controlled Thermal Solar Energy Basic Unit, “MINI-EESTC,” demonstrates the process of solar thermal heating for domestic water in an easy-to-understand manner.

This unit is designed to convert solar energy into usable thermal energy. It utilizes a thermosiphon system to heat water or a traditional pumping system. In both cases, the thermal energy is simulated using solar radiation provided by a panel with powerful light sources.

The unit consists of the following main components:

  1. Thermal Solar Panel
  2. Tank
  3. Solar Simulator
  4. Lamps
  5. Pumping System
  6. Temperature Sensors
  7. Flow Sensor
  8. Valves (for thermosiphon or pumping mode)

The solar panel is made of polycarbonate and mounted on a metal structure, with a conduit for the thermal fluid. It is designed with an optimized geometry to maximize energy absorption and efficiency.

The tank meets the necessary technical standards in both construction and equipment. Hot water is discharged through an overflow positioned at the top of the tank.

The lamps used in the solar simulator emit radiation similar to sunlight, mimicking the natural solar energy.

This unit can simulate two different operating modes:

  • Thermosiphon Mode: Water circulates due to temperature differences (no pump).
  • Pumping Mode: Water is circulated using a pump.

Five temperature sensors are placed at various points within the unit to monitor temperature changes.

A flow meter and flow sensor track the water flow through the pump and collector, providing accurate data on the system’s performance.

All necessary pipes and connections are included for optimal operation.

The unit is equipped with the EDIBON Computer Control System (SCADA), which includes:

  • The unit itself
  • A Control Interface Box
  • A Data Acquisition Board
  • Computer Control, Data Acquisition, and Data Management Software Packages

These components work together to monitor and control the process and all relevant parameters.
