Description
The Power Transmission Smart Grid Application with SCADA, “AEL-PTSG,” has been designed to study the most important applications based on thyristor-controlled reactors (TCR), thyristor-controlled capacitors (TSC), STATCOMs, and high-voltage DC transmission systems (HVDC). The aim of this application is to demonstrate the basic principles of SVCs, STATCOMs, and HVDC integrated into smart grids, as it would be unthinkable to have a real grid without SVCs to control reactive power flows and voltage levels in transmission systems.
The “AEL-PTSG” application provides different modules for students and teachers to configure their own flexible AC transmission system. This application allows for various levels of training and study for both beginner and advanced researchers who wish to start from scratch or improve their knowledge in this field.
Additionally, a series of modules are recommended to better understand the importance of flexible AC transmission systems (FACT). The “AEL-PTSG” application offers the possibility of integrating a real synchronous generator to study the influence of sudden changes in reactive power (voltage drop) and how SVCs and STATCOMs solve this issue by compensating the power factor and preventing significant voltage drops in the synchronous machine.
Furthermore, the Data Acquisition and Control System Software is included for performing advanced tests on FACTS. This advanced software allows for monitoring current and voltage waveforms to study these signals in depth.
The “PTSG-UB” is the base unit of the “AEL-PTSG” application.
